Our Story

In 1949, Southside Baptist Church was formed on a dirt road in Richmond, VA that is now known as Iron Bridge Road. After 70 years of ministry to the community, Southside Baptist Church was “re-launched” as Transformation Church RVA to continue the legacy of reaching people and pushing the gospel forward. If you’re looking for a church with perfect people to fill up the pews, you won’t find that here. What you WILL find is real people, with real lives striving to look more and more like Christ. If you’re looking for a church where we only hang out on Sunday’s, you won’t find that here. We believe that Christ-centered community is CRUCIAL (we would say “life or death”) to your relationship with God. If you’re looking for a church that only “does church” inside our building, you won’t find that here. What you will find is a group of people who enjoy the Sunday worship experience, but who desire to take what they’ve experienced on Sunday’s and go out into the community to share it with others. We would LOVE the opportunity to meet you and your family.

Over the last couple years, we have felt the Spirit of the Lord directing us in a fresh way around the intersection of equipping disciples and engaging the mission. Like many churches, we have looked and prayed about what the future of tChurch would be like as so many things around us continue to be different. Our hearts have been stirred to put a dent in the darkness around us with the light of the Gospel in some very specific ways. We see an eternally significant future ahead full of increased hotel/door-to-door ministry, coming alongside teen moms, sending missionaries, and answering the need for homeless families locally. Not only do these endeavors create unique discipleship/equipping opportunities, but we are seeing people far from God encounter new life in him. We are determined to not finish the race in cruise control… we are putting our foot on the gas and clinging tight to the wheel as we move boldly through every door God opens for us.
